Great Goals

Before Stan Collymore became a radio talk-show host (and tabloid fodder for all sorts of things that are nothing to do with football) he was an exciting young forward who inspired Liverpool to pay a (then) astonishing fee of £8.5 million for him. He had a couple of good years at Liverpool but he also had one Michael Owen breathing down his neck and was moved onto Aston Villa with Liverpool recouping a good chunk of what they had paid.

Leaving to one side his subsequent career trajectory, those that saw him during his break-through years always knew what he was capable of.

In flashes it came back, like this wonderful strike for Bradford City. The goal is against Leeds United and the celebration got him into a spot of hot water.

The latest turn in Collymore’s story sees him taking a chair for Russia Today, hmm . . . .
