An Apology To My Body
Body, we need to talk.
As you know we are in this together: you take care of me and I take care of you and that is how it should be. In fact we shouldn’t even be having this conversation. Neither of us really believe in Cartesian materialism but it is hard to know how else to approach this subject and if that sounds like a bit of a cop-out, perhaps it is. Perhaps I’m feeling guilty but here is the thing, it’s the World Cup.
Now I know you’ll forgive me the awaydays. Hanging out with friends, catching up with a few characters I haven’t seen in a while is, in its own way, healthy. But there are a lot of games and I will be watching plenty of them. I’m looking forward to it. And with the games there will be alcohol, a whole lot of sitting around and fast-food I only intend to walk to the front door to pick-up. I know it doesn’t have to be this way but the truth is I WANT it this way. Sorry.
All that being said, I do still believe we are in this together and I would remind you that it is only every four years. Bear with me and we will come out of this smiling at the other end.
